Elijah,  Come Out Of The Cave

I want to talk a little about Elijah, one of God’s greatest prophets. Elijah, immediately after taking one of the greatest stands for God, feeling alone as an anointed prophet, on Mt. Carmel watched God consume the sacrifice before the 450 prophets of Baal. 1 Kings 18:38: “Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.”

After Elijah had taken this AWESOME stand for God, and God had consumed NOT ONLY the sacrifice, but the rocks, wood, dust, and even the WATER in the trench with His Holy Fire! Then Elijah, still anointed with the Spirit of God, slew all 450 prophets of Baal.

Of course, when Jezebel heard what Elijah had done, she vowed to kill him. Now after Elijah had SEEN with his own two eyes what God had done on Mt. Carmel, yes, EVEN AFTER THAT, Elijah STILL became fearful and depressed and in 1 Kings 19:4, we can read of Elijah’s despondent attitude: “But he himself went a days journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.”

Wow, that seems hard to believe! Such an anointed prophet! He saw God in action, yet here we get to see him in his humanity, as just a man, succumbing to depression, feeling as if he is the only prophet left in the world. Knowing that the evil Jezebel is sending people to kill him…and even after an angel awakens him several times and has baked cakes for him on the coals of his fire! Yes, EVEN AFTER SEEING ALL THAT, and being fed by an angel of the LORD, Elijah still went on to Mt. Horeb and holed up in a cave there!

Finally, God asks Elijah what he was doing there in 1 Kings 19:9-10: “And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What does thou here, Elijah? And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I , even I only, am left; and they seek my life to take it away.” Elijah had given up, felt alone, defeated, and in the midst of his total aloneness, God told Elijah something very profound:

1 Kings 19:18: “Yet I have left ME seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.”

Here, God allows Elijah to see the shortcomings of his human “vision”. Because Elijah felt defeated, he could NOT understand that God always has a higher plan. God plainly told him in the verses above, that he had kept a remnant of 7000 who had NOT bowed the knee to Baal, and thus ELIJAH could know that he was NOT the only one! Looking out of the eyes of defeat, however, Elijah could not see this.

Now, the good part of this shows what a loving Father we have! He saw Elijah’s grief and feelings of despair, and then showed him that he was NOT alone, and after that, God sent Elisha to Elijah, not only to “train” up Elisha, but I believe it was for Elijah to have some one who traveled with him as a friend, and I see this as God’s mercy to Elijah, because he felt so defeated and alone.

Now, I would like to encourage all of you called-out PROPHETS, PASTORS, APOSTLES, and all workers for God, to not live in despair like Elijah did. Yes, some of you will go and preach, teach, and witness with the fire of the Holy Ghost upon you! But there will be that time when you are all alone in your humanity, just like Elijah was. When everyone will seem to be coming against you, all the “hounds of hell”, so to speak. And, just like Elijah, you will have SEEN God heal the sick, and KNOW that God is real, and yet you will still succumb to the lies of Satan. Even Elijah did! Just remember that 7000 who DID NOT bow the knee to Baal, and know that you are not the only one! Remember how God sent Elisha to Elijah, and know that God sees and hears your problems.

I want to ENCOURAGE you workers for the LORD! The battle is getting stronger every day, and Satan’s army of demons and workers are getting busier in their assault on God’s Kingdom! We must GET BUSY TOO, and not let SATAN drag us down into depression, or isolation. Do not go hunt a “CAVE” and feel defeated. Your cave could just simply be your home, or where ever it is you are hiding out from God, like Elijah did! However, when you come out of that cave, you will come out into God’s bright light, and step into your anointing, your purpose, and your destiny. Your home might still BE your home, but it will NO LONGER be your CAVE anymore. God can USE you anywhere! The internet is proof of this.

COME OUT OF THE CAVE, All of you anointed workers for God, and let God use you and lead you and guide you to help reap the endtimes harvest. We must get busy going about “Our Father’s Business.”
